Great Dunmow
Location: OS: TL64532445
Status:
Next to Wickham Bishop this is the best post I have seen so far, externally
there is no compound but the post is hard to see from the road. The hatch
is in good condition with some green paint on the hatch and air vent. The
eyes for the padlocks are missing and the hatch is unlocked. Internally
the post is in very good condition. the rope for raising and lowering equipment
is still there. once inside the post both doors are still there and so
is the toilet along with a shovel and broom.
Once inside the main room the following equipment is still there.
-
two floor mates
-
two mattresses
-
area chart
-
cupboard
-
kettle
-
new tea pot
-
tool kit
-
fuses
-
bin
-
bowl
-
wind vain
-
siren box
-
complete fire blanket
-
large desk
-
small desk
-
mirror
-
a box of service biscuits
-
civil defence magazines
-
post diary
-
lots of paper work
-
soap
-
toilet roles
-
crow bar.
The civil defence magazines have been removed for preservation purposes
and that is were I got the article for building a concrete bunker from.
I personally would have like to have removed all the equipment from
the post but I was advised by Nick Catford who made the complete listing
of all the posts nation wide for the Subbrit site to level the equipment
there. The posts has now been locked with the "T" bar lock which has made
things more safe.
Future Action:
