| Location: | Two miles to the South east of Saffron Walden |
| Date opened: | April 1937 |
| Operational Status: | The airfield started as a fighter station under No 12 group but this was short lived and during the battle of Britain was transferred to No 11 group who's command it remained under until the airfield was transferred to the Eighth Airforce on the 7th September 1943 |
| Airfield Closed: | The airfield finally closed to flying in 1975, |
| Current Status: | Though the base was given up by the RAF in 1975 it is still used in military hands as it is home to 33rd Engineer Regiment |
