Chipping Ongar

Location: Though the airfield is called Chipping Ongar the airfield is universally known as Willingale airfield after the small village a short distance to the north east of the airfield site
Date opened: First American units started arriving on the 21st June 1943 
Operational Status: Medium bomber airfield with B26s
Airfield Closed: Last flying took place on the 24th March 1945 but the ministry of Defence did not sell the airfield until 1959
Current Status:  Some of the airfield can be seen including part of the main runway, some hard standings and a few workshops
